Transform Your Data Literacy

Virtual Masterclass

Developing Data Literacy Programs

for the Enterprise

24 - 25 March 2021

An exclusive virtual masterclass to equip you with the tools you need to develop a data literacy program for your organisation.

Join this exclusive 2-day virtual masterclass, led by Jane Crofts, and experience a proven methodology to measure, map and develop data literacy across the organisation.

Participants will be asked to complete an individual data literacy assessment prior to the workshop – the results of which will be aggregated and discussed during the workshop.

Day One Agenda

10:00am - 4:30pm
Each day the facilitator will assign time for a morning, lunch and afternoon break.

Session one: Defining data literacy
It is widely recognised that there is an urgent need for organisations to build and nurture data literacy across their workforce. But what exactly is ‘data literacy’? To start on an even footing, we will start by understanding what ‘data literacy’ is and why it matters. In this session participants will be introduced to the concept of data literacy and delve into the skills and competencies covered by this domain.

  • What is data literacy and why does it matter?

  • Introducing Databilities® – a data literacy competency framework

Session two: Measuring data literacy
Using the Databilities® framework, we now have the ability to measure data literacy both at an individual and organisational level. In this session participants will reflect on their experience in completing the individual assessment and be introduced to the group’s collective results.

  • Reviewing Databilities® measurement tools

  • Understanding and interpret group results

  • Identifying key strengths and opportunities from the group results

Session three: Mapping data literacy across the organisation

When it comes to building data literacy capability across the organisation, one size definitely does not fit all! Whilst it is inefficient to develop personalised plans for each person within the organisation, we can define – and attend to – groups of employees with similar characteristics. In this session participants will understand how different cohorts – or personas – can be identified within their organisation and how these personas can inform their data literacy program.

  • Identifying personas for your organisation

  • Understanding key features of each persona

  • Incorporating personas in the design of data literacy programs

Day Two Agenda

10:00am - 4:30pm
Each day the facilitator will assign time for a morning, lunch and afternoon break.

Session four: Developing data literacy across the organisation
Founded in Knowles’ 4 Principles of Andragogy, we will explore the range of activities and resources that should make up your data literacy program.  With a focus on learning through doing – we will discuss the features of a successful data literacy program and also identify features that should be avoided!  In this session participants will consider a range of tools and techniques to build and nurture data literacy across their organisation.

  • Examining Knowles’ 4 Principles Of Andragogy

  • Assessing features of a successful data literacy program

  • Identifying tools and techniques to include in your data literacy program

Session five: Examining key findings from the Global Data Literacy Benchmark
The recently released Global Data Literacy Benchmark provides an opportunity for us to understand data literacy across 5 regions, 14 industries and 9 occupations. The first of its kind, the Global Data Literacy Benchmark provides an insight into the challenge – and opportunity – faced by all regions, industries and occupations. In this session we will review the findings from this study, and explore key differences and similarities.

  • Reviewing findings from the Global Data Literacy Benchmark

  • Identifying key similarities and differences between regions, industries and occupations

  • Exploring group results against relevant benchmark data sets
